A Festival with Purpose
Leicester is preparing to lace up its running shoes once again as the Run Leicester Festival returns on Sunday 26 October 2025. This year the event carries a renewed sense of purpose as local charity Drop of Compassion joins the festival with their new campaign, Run for Leicester: Run for Compassion.
Running Through the Heart of the City
The festival has long been a highlight of Leicester’s sporting calendar, attracting thousands of runners of all abilities. Starting and finishing in Victoria Park, the route takes participants through some of the city’s most recognisable streets and green spaces, including Abbey Park, Watermead and the famous Golden Mile. The event is more than just a race: it’s a celebration of community, with cheering crowds, live entertainment and a buzzing runner’s village creating a carnival atmosphere.
Supporting Local Charities
At the heart of Run Leicester lies its charitable mission. As a not for profit event, every pound raised goes directly to those in need. This year’s official partner, LOROS Hospice, continues to provide compassionate care for terminally ill patients and their families across Leicestershire. Alongside this, Drop of Compassion’s involvement introduces the Run for Compassion campaign, which will also support Jamila’s Legacy, a mental health organisation working with families and communities across the region.
Drop of Compassion Joins the Festival
Although Drop of Compassion has built a strong reputation for international humanitarian projects in countries such as Malawi, Bangladesh and India, their decision to join the Run Leicester Festival marks a new chapter. For the first time, the charity is taking part in a large scale local event, giving the people of Leicester a chance to support their work both at home and abroad
Every Mile Matters
The campaign’s message is clear: every mile run represents relief for hardship, every donation brings comfort to someone in need, and every effort made is a blessing for both giver and receiver. Whether you are chasing a personal best or running simply to take part, your contribution has real meaning.
Leicester’s Revitalised Running Festival
Run Leicester has been revitalised in recent years, transforming from the city’s traditional marathon into a vibrant festival that welcomes everyone, from elite athletes to first time runners. With its scenic course, festive atmosphere and community driven spirit, it has become a fixture in the city’s calendar. The addition of Drop of Compassion as a partner charity only strengthens that sense of purpose.

Registration is now open. Whether you take on the 10K or the Half Marathon, volunteer on the day, or cheer from the sidelines, this is a chance to play your part in something special. On 26 October, Leicester won’t just be running for fitness it will be running for compassion.
