There has been growing concern about litter over the past few months on Maidstone Road in Highfields. Many of the former motor vehicle units have now been taken over by food businesses such as Blazing Bird, Cake Temptations and other takeaways. While the trade has brought more traffic and customers to the area, it has also led to a sharp rise in litter.

We spoke to a resident who expressed his frustration: “We have had it with the rubbish. We can’t take it anymore. The council doesn’t collect the waste bins regularly and they’re always overflowing. People have no consideration they park up outside and when they finish their food, they throw it on the floor.”
