Passengers are being urged to stay informed about their travel rights as disruption continues following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Travellers can seek guidance by speaking directly to their airline, travel agent or tour operator, or by visiting the Civil Aviation Authority website, which provides up to date advice on delays and cancellations. Additional support is also available through the official air passenger travel guide.
The UK government has confirmed it is closely monitoring jet fuel supplies and is working alongside airlines, airports and fuel providers to keep passengers moving and minimise disruption. Efforts are ongoing to secure a long term solution that will allow shipping to resume safely through the Strait of Hormuz.
To support airlines during this period, temporary flexibility has been introduced around airport slot rules. Normally, airlines must operate at least 80 percent of their allocated take off and landing slots to retain them for the following year, under what is known as the ‘use it or lose it’ rule.
However, Airport Coordination Limited has confirmed airlines will not lose their slots if they are unable to operate flights due to fuel shortages. Carriers can now apply for exemptions, allowing them to prioritise passenger welfare rather than running flights simply to retain slots.
The move is expected to reduce unnecessary flights and help airlines manage disruption more effectively
